Mieke is a very nice dance teacher, with a lot of personal attention and she creates a very nice atmosphere!
Aylin - December 17, 2024
In the past block - November & December 2024 - I started as a leader in the improvers class on Wednesday evening. I have been dancing for a number of years as a follower (urban kiz), but in the last 2 to 3 years also more often as a leader. The Kizz effect is the third dance school where I have followed urban lessons as a leader, and so far my favorite!
What struck me most is the attention to detail. Mieke and Femke know very well how to pinpoint why certain steps are difficult and I have received a lot of personal feedback, without me having the idea that this was holding the group up or anything. If something really doesn't work, they immediately ask to dance with one of them and/or just watch, which I found exciting at first, but that feeling disappeared quite quickly. Mieke and Femke are also just very nice, calm, and enthusiastic. (And Britt too, I know from previous lessons ;) ).
I think the balance between personal feedback, but still keeping the group going is very clever. Not that I was bothered by this in the past with others, but I did notice that with larger groups and a different dynamic, you automatically get less personal feedback, but just change a lot and have to figure it out yourself and don't always get to those crucial details. I definitely think that Mieke's (and Femke's?) didactic background also really helps with this. You also notice that in the general group dynamics: every lesson there is a clear plan of what we are going to do, what they want to convey and a good balance between explanation from Mieke and Femke and just input from the group.
I also thought the lesson about the different styles was good. I myself only knew about the different styles within kizomba after my first kizomba festival, and despite the fact that I have been to many other festivals and followed all kinds of workshops, it is always nice to refresh what the differences are etc.
Also positive is that they actively try to keep the group in balance in terms of leaders and followers, so this was never a problem. Now I did the improvers class on both Wednesday and Thursday in the first week and there was a real difference in group size and also balance. Personally, the improvers group on Thursday was too small for me and I think it was also more difficult to get the balance right there.
So partly because of that I chose Wednesday, although it mainly suited me better because of other activities.
Finally, I also think it is nice to see that they are also just involved in the group outside of class. For example, a games night is organized, but events outside of class are also shared in the whatsapp group. And of course next week the first social, I am very curious! Because that is the only thing I missed so far: a social/practice evening to practice outside with people I know from class. Of course there are plenty of parties etc. to be found, but I find the accessibility of socials organized by your own dance teachers very cool. Also because you can get to know the people you actually have lessons with better.
All in all, very positive about the kizz effect, and as long as it still fits in with my work-private life I will definitely continue taking lessons here!

Fun lessons with nice people, lots of personal attention and they really help you to dot the i's.

Since this year I have been taking UK lessons with Mieke. Mieke offers a nice structure in the lessons in which a good foundation is laid in a playful way.
She gives individual feedback, the devil is in the details 😁, and that is very nice!
Moreover, all this happens in a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere. Great!

The kizomba lessons that Mieke gives are of a high level. She gives really personal tips and explains clearly. She also often adds a game-like element (for example, that the women can lead for a while) to the lesson to improve even more.
In addition, the most important thing is that it is always fun and there is a lot of laughter!

Nice, cozy dance class and super sweet teacher.

Mieke always organizes incredibly fun boot camps!! At festivals I quickly go to workshops of other styles, but Mieke knows how to bring urban kiz so nicely and you learn so many fun moves that it is actually always far too short, such a boot camp that lasts a few hours. Highly recommended!

The lessons of the kizz effect have helped me a lot with a better foundation. An appropriate leading/following exercise in every lesson contributes greatly to this. She explains very clearly, takes the time for personal feedback and tips and does so in a pleasant manner. Thank you Mieke!

Mieke is driven and passionate. The lesson is very well organised: very good explanation, clear structure and the technique is explained so well that you should really be able to do it. What I also like is the personal attention you receive. The atmosphere is always relaxed and pleasant. Highly recommended!

At the end of 2023 I took a 5-week course with Mieke. In addition to the personal attention and pleasant atmosphere, I have learned a lot in this short period. I must say that a lot of attention is paid to the basics, so I learned more in these 5 weeks with Mieke than a year at my previous dance school.

During a private lesson, Mieke introduced me to various Latin dance styles, both using clear example videos and on the dance floor itself. Patiently, sometimes taking a step back if it didn't work out right away, she taught me the basic steps of the Kizomba. Her attentive and calm way of teaching immediately put me at ease. Then she led and as a follower I got a taste of how wonderful it is to dance the Kizomba. Now just need to find a partner...

Mieke explains very clearly step by step how to perform your steps. But also what you should pay attention to, such as where and when you shift your weight. She is friendly, approachable and professional. Simply a top teacher!

Dear Mieke,
Thank you for the great Kizomba class! What a super fun evening! A high-level lesson in which, as a beginner, I can already do quite a lot after one hour thanks to the finely structured and clear explanations! You are professional, have an eye for detail and at the same time ensure that we have fun! I'd love to come back to you!
Thank you!
Lots of love Paula - October 12, 2023
Very good explanation. Mieke and Erik broke down so many elements of urban kizz into detail. Great location in the center of Arnhem and very nice atmosphere from the teachers and students.

I really enjoyed the private lesson with Mieke.
She looks carefully at your level and pace and quickly switches accordingly.
She also clearly indicates what the learning points are so that you can improve them immediately.
It was also nice and challenging for me.
I had a lot of fun.

Last weekend I had an intermediate urban kizomba workshop at The Kizz Effect, by Marvin and Mieke.
Very nice that everyone could dance at a high level. This way you could quickly go into more depth. I found the interaction with questions, exercises and personal tips very valuable.
Nice explanation and structure of the workshop. attention has clearly been paid to it.
Afterwards we went out for dinner with a group, so there was plenty of fun.
I'm completely excited again!!
Thanks Mieke!

I recently had a private Kizomba lesson from Mieke.
It was really cool and educational.
I could choose whether I wanted to learn to follow or lead passes.
As a woman, I chose to learn to lead some steps.
Mieke explained the steps well, first she showed what it would look like, then we went through the steps side by side in front of a mirror, and finally we practiced it together.
In between she also gave good tips about my posture, hand placement, connection, etc.
This was explained to me in peace, and in the meantime I could indicate whether the lesson was going too fast or too slow for me.
When the lesson was finished, Mieke demonstrated all the steps again, which I was allowed to film so that I could practice it myself at home.
Meanwhile, she also repeated the tips she had previously given on video.
I thought it was a very nice and educational lesson, and therefore definitely worth repeating.
Thank you Mieke!

Nice atmosphere and accessible!
Britt - April 3, 2023
Really enjoyed the two afternoons of The Kizz Effect. Surprising choreo, tailor-made explanation and room for humor. Definitely recommended if you want to improve your skills! And Mieke is simply great.
Maite - January 31, 2023

I say go for it!
Veerle - January 8, 2023
What a wonderful afternoon it was! Nice people and a nice and relaxed atmosphere. Also very happy with the level of both Mieke and Mert, as well as the dancers who participated in the workshop: I really learned something new because of this! In addition, I really appreciate the good leader/follower ratio: finally a workshop where you as a follower do not 'stand still' 50% of the time because there are not enough leaders! To be repeated. Can't wait for part 2 of The Kizz Effect!
Mariska - December 18, 2022
Super fun and educational boot camp!
Mieke and Mert provided clear and concise explanations.
The group had a good leader/follower ratio and was not too large, so everyone received personal attention. In addition, it was just a nice group with a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere.
